Ruger American Rimfire Long-Range Target Review
Sturm Ruger & Co are the biggest rimfire manufacturer in the USA, and it’s fair to say they’re well known for their iconic designs. I’m sure everyone knows the 10/22 rifle, and many will be familiar with the older 77/22 as well. They both share the reliable 10-shot rotary magazine that’s still the benchmark for rimfire magazines.
When Ruger introduced the American rimfire range, it had a lot to live up to considering their history; now that the American rimfire rifle has been in production for a few years, it seems it has surpassed the 77/22 in terms of popularity and is a well-regarded affordable option for hunters and target shooters.
Like most manufacturers, Ruger make a myriad of variations, and with the increasing popularity of long-range .22 shooting, Ruger have added another model to the line-up. The Long-Range Target (LRT) is aimed at those shooters who want to shoot small game or hit targets out to 200 yards and further. In many respects, it overlaps with the Rimfire Precision rifle – which has a chassis and looks a bit tactical – and looking at the rifle, some things will be very familiar.
The Ruger Long-Range Target is another variation on what is a simple but well-made rimfire action. If you’ve read my earlier reviews on the Ruger American rimfire rifles, you’ll know I like them. I like them because they shoot well, don’t cost a fortune, have a great magazine, and feel like full-sized rifles.
