100 Years Of Mossberg

Date: 01-01-2021

INNOVATION HAS ALWAYS BEEN OUR TARGET

It all started in 1919 with a simple dream: to make affordable, durable, and reliable weapons for the working class. That dream, as basic as it was, was somewhat ambitious. Oscar Frederick Mossberg, a Swedish immigrant, was 53 years old at the time. He was, nevertheless, gifted and determined. So he and his two sons, Harold and Iver, founded O.F. Mossberg & Sons, Inc., armed with experience, inventive designs, and a thorough understanding of the business.

The Brownie, a four-shot 22-caliber handgun that was sturdy and reliable, was their first weapon. It solidified Mossberg's reputation as a maker of rifles that were not only reliable, but also built to last.

The small company swiftly expanded, adding more than two dozen firearms while also creating and enhancing a generation of bolt-action rifles and shotguns. This would quickly establish the firm as a pioneer in shooting sports, as it introduced a slew of guns industry firsts, including the first range-finding telescopic sight.

Oscar Mossberg passed away in 1937. Nonetheless, his sons remained committed to continuing their father’s legacy. And in 1941, they started manufacturing training rifles for the U.S. military.

The 500® pump-action shotgun was introduced by Mossberg® in 1961. It would go on to become the company's most popular firearm, selling more than 10 million copies faster than any other, making it one of the most popular and widely produced firearms in the world.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Mossberg continued to innovate. Mossberg's military 500, 590, and 590A1 were the first pump-action shotguns to meet all MIL-SPEC 3443 standards for the US military. The 835® Ulti-Mag® pump-action shotgun was the first firearm chambered for 3.5′′ shells to hit the market in 1988, giving serious turkey and waterfowl hunters the edge.

The MVP, the first bolt-action rifle to successfully feed from standard AR/M14 magazines, is one of Mossberg's most recent firearm developments. This proprietary method supplied the market with a rifle that was extremely accurate and reliable, as well as the ability to use America's most popular magazines.

The Model 590M, a double-stack detachable magazine on Mossberg's battle-proven 590 shotgun platform, was released next, further expanding the magazine-fed shotgun universe.

In Mossberg's first 100 years, a lot has happened. Despite this, they've proudly maintained a family-owned and operated business.

And to commemorate a century of ingenuity, enthusiasm, and dedication, the fourth generation of Mossbergs is launching a new firearm this year. It's a 9mm subcompact pistol known as the MC1sc.

This exciting new subcompact pistol ushers in a new era for the Mossberg family and expands its robust line of firearms. The innovative MC1sc was designed to outperform the industry-leading 9mm subcompact while continuing the Mossberg tradition of durability and dependability. Exactly what you’ve come to expect from a Mossberg.
